This is either acrylic or gouache over giclee; I’m working from a scan so I can’t check, nor do I remember whether the initial photograph was blurred in-camera or in-photoshop. This is another “painting on photograph” experiment that I keep around because I think there is something there, even though this incarnation is not quite there yet. Kind of like Joyce Tennyson crossed with a horror movie.
Used as the cover for Theresa Brennan’s poetry memoir, Maelstrom.
Concept Sketch: City Elemental
Concept sketch for Elemental: City. While the city didn’t change much, everything else did (horizontal to vertical, SeanneMarie to Jamie, empty sky to an accumulation of street scenes…) but I feel like the basic concept stayed fairly constant.
