Archive for November, 2005

I took a workshop two weeks ago from Rebekah Schmidt on mixing encaustics with photography, and I’m really excited about the possibilities of the two mediums together.

This is one of the pieces I did at the workshop:

Cherry Bomb, 2005. J.E. Patterson

Cherry Bomb, 2005

5″x7″, pigmented encaustic over inkjet print on canvas board.

I’m excited both by the possibility of some much more complex, collaged and painterly extensions of my photography, but also by how much a simple layering of texture can do to change and expand the meaning of a piece.

More will come as I get them photographed. (I scanned three of the flatter pieces, and then realized that one hadn’t entirely cured; beeswax residue on the scanner glass is not something I want to deal with; the other two should be posted later this week.)

This is very very early on in a piece I’ve been thinking about for ages, but just started actually putting together. Model is the exquisite SeanneMarie.
