This is a new encaustic piece; mostly an experiment with certain kinds of techniques rather than intended to be an actual finished work, but it is growing on me.

I’ve been spending some time exploring mixed media techniques that I’m very excited about, both encaustic and acyrlic, that will bring the texture and handwork I’ve been missing to my work but also integrate well with bringing my photography full circle, to a more central place in my art-making than grabbing bits and pieces for compositing. This work isn’t finished yet, but it is the best example so far of the direction I want to go in. Normally, when I get out the watercolors, it is to play with pure color or form. But this one ventured just a little way out of abstraction, and will have to serve as the “picture from my vacation” unil my film is all done:
